I decided to take a chance and do it...

1.How did you get into art (and eventually drawing fan art, of course) and does it have any part in your RL job/profession? (You don't have to tell me what you do in RL if you're not comfortable, obviously)

In university I was a Science major and I had to get 6 credits in Fine Arts for my degree. My friends tried to convince me to art history or something simple in art but I decided to go the hard route and took a first-year studio art course. At that point in my life I had participated in an art class since sixth grade. I loved it and switch my major to Humanities so I could double major in Fine Arts and Political Science. After I graduated I worked as a graphic designer for 5 years, then worked in the film industry for around 5 years, then decided to get my BFA. I graduated with my BFA in 2002. However, art school had pretty much beaten the figurative and illustrative art out of by the end of my degree.

The following year I was working on a project and I fell in love with the illustrations of a HP fan artist (though she does a lot of other art besides HP and does them well!!) I talked her into doing some work on the project I was doing and we became friends. She was the one who talked me into doing fan art.

I will say that I’m really insecure about my art and I think it’s a sad representation of someone with as much education as I have.

2. If stranded on a desert island, what book and what movie would you take, and what significance do they hold for you (if any)?

The book I would take is the Bible (yes I’m one of those… sorry), but if it’s a non-spiritual book you are asking about then I would take the Sandman graphic novel (all 10 volumes…) because I know I would continue to be entertained by it forever. If graphic novel doesn’t count then I would take “Berlin Noir” by Philip Kerr, because the book really struck me, I know it’s not the best thing I’ve ever read and it has flaws but I keep coming back to it and never get bored of reading it.

The movie I would take is Blade Runner. When it first came out I saw it so many times in the theatre I lost count and then when the re-released and made it even better I toast one VHS copy and it was one of the first DVD I owned. That movie really got me on a level I don’t really understand and it still does.

3. Do you prefer cooking, dining out, or delivery?

I love cooking and I love take out totally depending on my mood. I’m a good cook and like what I make, but I love take-out Vietnamese, Japanese, Indian and Chinese and I’m lazy (so we eat it a lot… good thing my husband likes them too :). I don’t like eating out I prefer to eat in especially if I’m by myself, however I’m addicted to going out for coffee.

4. If you could change one thing about yourself/your life right now, what would it be?

I would like to be more confident.

5. Favourite song?

Songs for me really go in moods and I like a large variety of music, I also used to be in a band and have played live, which is kind of weird because I really loved playing on stage in front of people but as soon as I’m off the stage I try to sink into the background. I think I do… but not a single friend I have (or my husband for that matter) thinks I wallflower… which just goes to show that I’m no judge of myself… kind of sad… I also tangent a lot, which you may have figured out by now… anyway, back to the song… I’m going through a big Depeche Mode rediscovery so I will say “Dream On” by them… and trust me that answer will change by the time I post this…
